The most common form of diabetes is type 2 diabetes. People with this type of diabetes have insulin resistance. This means that the body can’t properly use its insulin.

Since many people with type 2 diabetes have never dealt with this type of condition before, it is very difficult for them to get used to insulin dependency.

    Insulin Therapy

Type 2 diabetes can develop at any age. Due to the bad foods we eat, the sugars we consume or the fat our body gains, some of us will develop type 2 diabetes. We would get introduced to insulin therapy.

To control the condition, we may have to use insulin therapy. This means, injections filled with insulin that will help reduce the blood glucose levels, reduce diabetes complications, and the pressure on the pancreas.

People who must use insulin will have to always carry it around at home, at work, on the plane. It is crucial to have these injections always at hand. Some will need to get more injections a day than others.

But, the most common problem people find difficult to solve is how to store that insulin, especially when traveling. Since this condition is fairly new to many, it is best that we share some tricks and tips to how you can take better care of your condition and properly store the insulin.

    How to Store Insulin?

Make sure that your insulin is always cool. You can easily enjoy your trips if you refrigerate the insulin at a proper temperature. But, exposing it to too much heat or too low temperature will have a completely opposite effect. It will destroy its benefits.

There are some fridges, wallets, and bags you can buy to store the insulin better. They are very easy to carry, and you can store them anywhere. Such storage containers are specifically designed for insulin. So, you can purchase them at any shop (or online) where they sell diabetes-related merchandise.

How to Keep the Insulin Cool and Not Frozen?

If you have type 2 diabetes and must use insulin, you must store it properly, especially when you are on the road. Keeping your insulin cool and not frozen can be a bit tricky. But, once you get the hang of it, you won’t have any problems.

When you don’t use it, you keep it in cartridges, pens, or vials and put them in the fridge. But, most people don’t know that they have to store them at a temperature between 2°C - 8°C (35.6°F - 46.4°F).

If you don’t store them properly, the insulin will freeze. This is something you don’t want to happen. You mustn’t use frozen insulin. The freezing temperatures break it and destroy its effects. In other words, it is useless.
